Education Facilities
Hants County is home to seven high schools, four middle schools,
and fifteen elementary schools. Several high schools within the region
are part of the International Baccalaureate Program, a world-renowned
pre-university diploma program. The following are some eamples of some
of the unique unique educational facilities in our region.
King’s Edgehill (Windsor) was founded in 1788 and is Canada’s
oldest independent residential and day school. King’s Edgehill’s
commitment to academic excellence equips its alumni for university
life anywhere on the globe. The school places an emphasis on community
leadership skills by encouraging students to participate in a diverse
range of co-curricular activities. The International Baccalaureate
Program at King’s Edgehill is complimented by state-of-the-art facilities
including a new 300-seat theatre auditorium, and a new athletic
facility and conference centre.
Dr. Arthur Hines School (Summerville, West Hants) combines a l
ove of scholarship with the love of the environment. School principal,
Hazel Dill was honoured in 2007 as the Nova Scotia division winner of
Canada's Most Outstanding Prinicipals Award. This award is given to
principals across Canada who have demonstrated exceptional
contributions to education.
Riverside Education Centre (Milford, East Hants) in partnership
with Rush Communications has its own in-house television network
for media-savvy middle school students to take part in and enjoy.
