Elmsdale Lumber Limited (ELCO) was incorporated in 1950 and is a third-generation, family owned and operated sawmill. The company produces approximately 25 million board feet of lumber annually. Although ELCO primarily produces premium spruce products for the local and US markets, the production team also manufactures white pine, red pine and hemlock.

Spruce production consists mainly of kiln-dried 1” and 2” dimensional construction grade lumber. ELCO pine production is marketed to value-added producers for use in such items as window casings and finish trims. Hemlock is traditionally marketed as timber size stock and used for building bridges and road construction.

As a Nova Scotia Registered Buyer of wood fibre, ELCO is proud to support sustainable forestry practices at both its woodland holdings and the privately held woodlots of Nova Scotia.

ELCO provides direct employment for 55-60 full-time, year-round employees. ELCO is committed to workplace safety, and employee training and education.
