Asset Mapping to Enhance Hants County
The Hants Regional Development Authority is pleased to announce, after a competitive response to the Request for Proposals, that Pyra Management Consulting Services Inc. of Summerville has been awarded the contract for the Hants County Resource and Asset Mapping project.
Considered crucial for the maintenance of rural life and a sustainable economy, regional assets are defined as popularly recognized qualities, characteristics and advantages of a community. Hants County’s assets are important to sustain and build upon for future generations and can be anything from natural environment locations, infrastructures, what is socially important to community living, services, as well as anything intangible such as volunteers and skilled workers.
Think about what Hants County has to offer a business in expansion mode and then ask the question, “Why they would want to expand or locate to this region of Nova Scotia?” Asset mapping will provide the information to build a case for why and for helping our community leaders attract newcomers, investors and tourists alike. This asset mapping project will be filling that need in Hants County while establishing the Hants RDA as a one-stop shop for resource and asset intelligence.
“We need valid information regarding resources, infrastructures, taxes, employment stats etc” said the Hants RDA’s Executive Director Claude O’Hara. “We’re excited that all four municipalities within Hants County are partnering with us on this very valuable project. The Municipality of East Hants, the Municipality of West Hants, the Town of Windsor, the Town of Hantsport and the Province have all partnered together to fund this project.”
“The job of the regional development agency is to work collaboratively with our municipal partners and community groups to identify local needs and desires and then incorporate them into ongoing decision making and activities surrounding the building of a successful vibrant community. Knowing the assets and resources available in our region is a critical part of this exercise and will help us in our ongoing efforts to assist established businesses and to attract new investment to Hants County, including the opportunities related to the $25 billion National Shipbuilding Procurement Strategy” says O’Hara.
“We need to use the great resources and assets we already have to advance jobsHere, the plan to grow our economy. Businesses and the region will now have information to ensure people will have the right skills for good jobs,” said Percy Paris, Minister of Economic and Rural Development and Tourism. “This comprehensive resource and asset mapping project will attract new business and make the region more competitive globally.”
“As a company established in Hants County for over ten years we know the value of identifying the business, community and human resources that are here,” said Pyra Management Consulting Services Principal Consultant, Jim Pyra. “We are looking forward to working with the Hants RDA and other partners on this project and to help realize the benefits asset mapping will bring to Hants County.”
